Venue > Marseille

Marseille is the oldest town in France and the second by size and one of the most important commercial harbors in the Mediterranean Sea. Although Marseille became only touristic a decade ago, it has a lot to offer starting by its beautiful and preserved shore and an interesting center with buildings covering the different periods of its history.

The view from the basilic dedicated to Virgen Mary at the top of a hill overhanging the town, that can be seen from any place when you arrive to Marseille, is simply amazing.

Do not miss also the “Chateau d’If” on a small island in front of Marseille, where the “Comte de Montecristo” of the famous Alexandre Dumas novel was supposed to be jailed.

Marseille is also renowned for its Mediterranean climate with almost 300 days of sun per year. In May, the average temperature is around 18°C (down to 12°C in the night and up to 24°C in the day) with no more than 10 days and 50 mm of rain during the month. More information on the weather can be found here.

Another attractive of Marseille is that it is close to several appealing places of Provence such as :

- the roman city of Arles where Vincent Van Gogh painted several of his famous canvas (https://www.arlestourisme.com/en/)

- Avignon, once the capital of the catholic church with its Pope Palace (https://avignon-tourisme.com/en/)

- French Riviera and French southern Alps to cite only some of them.
